|Battle Against Cancer (Other News)- 26/6/16|
|Well known Airdrieonians fan, Mark Allison, has sadly passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Mark ran his own campaign in the battle against cancer and raised the impressive sum of over £70,000 for cancer charities. A man committed to helping others. Our thoughts are with him and his friends and family.
Closer to home we’d take the opportunity to remind fans about the opportunity to help the fight against cancer by attending the Deveronvale FC Championship Winning Team v Highland League “Legends Select” match at PRP on Sunday 31st July in memory of long standing Vale fan Ian McAllister and in support of ochre, the charity helping to fight oesophageal cancer.
|Youth players meet Vale legend (Youth News)- 24/6/16|
|Four young Deveronvale Youth players were lucky enough to meet former Vale, Aberdeen, Man United, Dundee and Hibs legend Jim Leighton at the Vale Golf Day on Sunday when he kindly popped in to show support to the club and take part in its annual event. Youth players Daniel McKay, Campbell Mcdermott, Josh Buchan and Max Stewart were offered a few words of sporting advice by Jim who spent a season on loan.
|Deveronvale Golf Day (Events News)- 23/6/16|
The annual Deveronvale Golf Day took place at a well presented Duff House Royal Golf Club on Sunday 12th June in reasonably good weather conditions and was supported this year by 76 golfers. The format was again a Texas Scramble and the winning team was led by stalwart Vale supporter Duncan Clark of the Seafield Bakery, accompanied by his wife Audrey and friends Bolton and Izzy Gorman.
Second place was taken by the Middlemuir Consulting team captained by Gordon Alexander with team members Alan Alexander, Ian Angus and Neil Duncan. Third place went to Vale Coach Craig Stewart’s team featuring Vale goalkeeper Grant Pennet, Max Stewart and Craig Young.
The £5000 “hole in one” prize at the long par 3 eleventh hole came under threat on a couple of
occasions but in the end proved elusive.
The prize for the longest drive on the 18th hole went to Bradley Neish who found the narrow fairway where some impressively long drives unfortunately found the rough.
Other major prize winners were Allan Whyte in the silent auction for Man United v Chelsea Premier League match tickets for the coming season and Gary Harris who won the Scotty Cameron putter kindly donated by DHR Pro James Callum. The lucky squares competition for two Club Wembley “Silver” tickets to the 2017 FA Cup Final will be drawn over the next few days. A small number of Squares are still available and can be purchased from Graeme Buchan or Mark McKay.
The Club would offer a big thank you to Mark McKay for volunteering to organise this year’s event to help raise much needed funds. Thanks also go to Mark’s “helpers” Graeme Buchan, Donna McKay, Shannon Buchan, Daniel McKay, Andrew Smith and Bruce Wink. Thanks also go to DHR for hosting the event, Wayne Stewart for providing the excellent food the golfers enjoyed before and after playing, and to all who supported the event through sponsorship, buying raffles and attending the event. A data for the 2017 Golf Day will be published soon.
